Very happy to be described as awesome and acrobatic! =D Check out this review of an absolutely epic show I was part of in November 2013. My only gripe is the lack of mention of the incredible Organised Kaos youth circus with whom I was contracted and continue to love to work with!

'A Small Chance of Showers It’s raining, it’s pouring, and it hasn’t stopped for months, maybe even years. People all over the country are leaving their flooded homes in the search for higher ground. But Lil and Dylan are bored of walking, and so instead invite you to share in their tales of boats, goldfish and how to cure a girl who’s tears have turned to glass.' With a topical edge to the narrative we're also going to be busting out plenty of circus and plenty of funny! Click the link above for dates. January is primarily been spent sleeping little whilst learning Polyphasic sleeping patterns, training loads =D and rediscovering my DJ skills which were well nurtured previous to my circus career. I shall be kicking off 2014 with the screening of The Creative Carnival film (teaser trailer here) by Table 3 Media (including super slo-mo fire!) and being invited to play a DJ set Carmarthen, my home for many years at a great Hip Hop night by the name of Spitting Feathers. With many other projects in the pipeline, 2014 if already shaping up very nicely...
Parkour, fire, skateboarding and awesome views! I am blessed to be a part of this footage and working with incredibly talented people on the Isle of Mann. And a massive thanks to Brook Wassall for creating it. http://www.youtube.com/user/Koorb777 Travelling back to the train station in the old 4 by 4 truck with gaffa tape holding the window shut, I felt elevated and sorrowful by Sybil's words of "Marvellous! Brilliant! FANTASTIC!". To be a part of the final NPT (Neath Port Talbot) parade in Pontardawe on Friday evening was indeed "Brilliant!" But due to lack of funding there will be no more. I cut my teeth performing at these events with Organised Kaos four years ago and we have had a blast every year since in Neath, Port Talbot and Pontardawe wowing packed out crowds despite the classic Welsh rain and freezing cold. Dressed in tutus, bowler hats or as demons Nicola Hemsley as been the driving force allowing Organised Kaos to perform at NPT and other parades across Wales. I'm grateful to a part of a company giving young people so many opportunities such as this and whether the parades continue or not, thanks to Organised Kaos those empowering opportunities shall keep arising.
First of the Christmas parades with Organised Kaos - loads of fun wowing the large crowds gathered in Port Talbot!
After our experiential trip to CIRCA in France we decided to start devising from scratch, which was initially daunting, but after creating a skill sequence followed by an in depth discussion with Bim Mason on where the piece was heading we made rapid progress. Personally enjoying our more skills based process I'm getting excited about having the opportunity to bust out some handstands on a trolley! The narrative and potential characters are feeling fun and with depth, which in all has led to a gratifying week. Now to make sure all those skills I promised are polished... =P My favourite event of this year so far. Chaotic and drenched. Beautiful and uniting. On paper this would have been my idea of hell. Instead we rinsed it out at our demonic best...
Every day it rained, but then we were in my home country of Wales. Based on the Shakespeare's Tempest the telling of this epic story proved challenging to the sixty strong cast and crew with the continuous rain and technical difficulties. I feel the show wouldn't have happened without such a strong and inspiring team of people in the most beautiful of countryside at Penpont estate, who pulled together in magnificent fashion to make the show go on. I felt proud to be a part of Organised Kaos as the professionals and young people alike nailed every show despite the wet, treacherous conditions in the most logistically challenging show I've yet performed in. And every show had a large audience with a sell-out on the last evening. Boom. This event was made by the fine selection of crew and performers. I loved getting to know every last talented one of them, from the crazy pyro guys, musicians initiating late night live songs to the actors, some of whom had an amazing ability to stream continuous... words from their mouth! Spending more time with Organised Kaos and the developing young people is always inspiring and watching the transfer of skills from person to person rocks my world. From my time at Circomedia I thought I lived for having every detail finely planned and executed, this week proved otherwise... What's been your favourite event of this year so far and why? Repping Circomedia with Can't Sit Still Circus-Theatre at the European FEDEC Festival - BOOM!25/10/2013 Saw the best circus shows of my life during this week.
The week involved eleven European circus schools coming together in Auch, France. Each performed to represent their school's pedagogy, generally with a very high skill level. Our own show was primarily theatre with occasional circus and the only other school to not focus on circus skills was a clown piece by Le Samovar. Then there was the professional shows. Damn. Klaxon by Akoreacro was the slickest, highest skill show I have yet seen. Performed in their own tent with live musicians mixed into the action it was straight up high energy circus combined with supremely present performers. Loved it. The chaotic Tout est bien! was also a pleasure to watch with some awesomely inventive set design and high skill. Lots to learn from this week. In Europe the very high skill level is standard. It appears you need to have this. Then try and make some bad ass shows. Simple. |
