Saw the best circus shows of my life during this week.
The week involved eleven European circus schools coming together in Auch, France. Each performed to represent their school's pedagogy, generally with a very high skill level. Our own show was primarily theatre with occasional circus and the only other school to not focus on circus skills was a clown piece by Le Samovar.
Then there was the professional shows. Damn. Klaxon by Akoreacro was the slickest, highest skill show I have yet seen. Performed in their own tent with live musicians mixed into the action it was straight up high energy circus combined with supremely present performers. Loved it. The chaotic Tout est bien! was also a pleasure to watch with some awesomely inventive set design and high skill.
Lots to learn from this week. In Europe the very high skill level is standard. It appears you need to have this. Then try and make some bad ass shows. Simple.
